This week, a paper written in 2023 by former staff Dr David McReynolds & Dr James O'Connor-Moneley; as well as Dublin Dental Hospital alumni, Dr Ahmed Sultan and Dr Advan Moorthy has received recognition and certification from publishing house Wiley as one of the Top 10 Most-Cited Articles in the Journal of Prosthodontics that year, according to Clarivate Analytics.

"Denture Stomatitis - An Interdisciplinary Clinical Review," is an open-access publication formulated by clinical-academic experts in the fields of Prosthodontics, Oral Medicine, and Oral Microbiology which reviews the aetiopathogenesis, clinical features, and management strategies of denture stomatitis from an interdisciplinary perspective.

The article was predominately authored and led by Dr David McReynolds, who collaborated closely with Dr Advan Moorthy to curate a highly visual set of clinical figures to enhance the impact of the manuscript. Dr James O'Connor-Moneley and Dr Ahmed Sultan played pivotal roles in formulating a visually-striking pseudo-colourised scanning electron microscopy (SEM) plate featuring an example of the Candida-containing polymicrobial biofilm frequently found on dentures.

The SEM work in this publication was supported by The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research of the NIH under award number R21DE028693 (NIDCR) to Dr Mary Ann Jabra-Rizk. Open Access was generously funded through the Wiley-IReL agreement with The University of Dublin, Trinity College.
