Teddy bear hospital (TBH) is a programme run by Trinity’s paediatric society to familiarise children with healthcare settings, and to alleviate any fears they may have. TBH also aims to raise funds for BUMBLEance which is the children’s ambulance service of Ireland.

It is a full day event organised in Trinity’s sports hall, and it welcomes children of all ages from toddlers to teenagers. This year approximately 500 children attended the event with their teddies. Every child and their teddy rotate through different stations in the Teddy Bear Hospital during their visit. There are multiple stations on the day, such as surgery, suturing and plaster, radiology, nutrition, dental, face paint and colouring stations.

Every year, the dental station is organised by dental students as part of the TBH event. This year, some of our fourth year dental students organised the dental station. In this station, children learn about the importance of oral hygiene and correct brushing techniques. They are also offered advice about diet and nutrition in relation to dental caries, as well as answering any questions they may have.  After the children are finished with their educational games and activities, the children receive a certificate of becoming ‘Teddy doctor’.
